Runway Revelations: Captivating Beauty Moments from New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week never fails to surprise and delight, and this season was no exception. While some designers opted for a minimalist approach, allowing their garments to take center stage, a select few pushed the boundaries of beauty, showcasing captivating makeup and hairstyles that left audiences in awe. From dramatic eyelashes to slick-back perfection, these beauty moments were the true stars of the runway.
Elevating the Extraordinary: Runway Beauty Trends That Captivated
Best Lashes: Diotima
At Diotima, the brand's beloved knitwear transported the audience to the Caribbean, but the dramatic eyelashes brought a fantastical twist to the presentation. The eyelashes, adorned with red and white accents, were the work of Addiction Tokyo's creative director, Kanaoko Takase, known for her unconventional approach to beauty. "The collection is a reconstructed memory of summer that features vibrant pops of color, and so we wanted the makeup look to complement this," Takase explained. The bold, colorful, and dramatic eyelashes were an extension of the collection's storytelling, seamlessly blending the vibrant hues and movement of the ocean-inspired garments.
Most Dramatic Glam: Luar
Luar's Raul Lopez is a designer who never shies away from making a bold statement on the runway, and this season was no exception. The beauty inspiration for the Luar show was a captivating fusion of "drag meets punk meets trade," resulting in a face that boasted a deep contour, bold brows (crafted from a fabric in the collection), defined cheekbones, and a standout lip. The most dramatic look, created by MAC artist Yadim Carranza, was an animal-print eye adorned with special appliqués. Complemented by MAC Pure white paintstick, winged eyeliner, and waterline eyeliner, the striking eyelashes completed the ultimate Luar look – a distinctive blend of glam and punk, worthy of recreation.
Best "Lived-in" Hair: Wiederhoeft
Wiederhoeft's shows often have a thrilling, cinematic vibe, juxtaposed with the brand's beautifully crafted garments. For this season, the beauty direction leaned into the dark, thriller-inspired aesthetic. Oribe artist Kien Hoang created "slept-in" hairstyles reminiscent of an exhausting night out, a unique twist on the typical messy hair look. The styles ranged from natural curls to flicked-back ponytails, all finished with Aprés Beach Wave and Shine Spray for a flawless "I woke up like this" appearance. While this look may have worked perfectly on the runway, Hoang acknowledged that it might not be the most practical choice for everyday wear.
Most Fun Nails: Libertine
Libertine's collection was showcased in a protest-themed show at the Elizabeth Street Garden, with an initiative to save the iconic green space. Manicurist Julie Kandalec wanted to amplify this message through the nail designs, creating a silver chrome look with a hint of yellow peeking through. "The yellow moon at night, or the sun, symbolizes the constant light that shines over the garden — a guiding force of hope and growth. This vision deeply inspired our design," Kandalec explained. The striking nail art not only complemented the collection but also served as a visual representation of the brand's commitment to the garden's preservation.
Best Slick Back: Alaïa
For its New York debut at the Guggenheim Museum, Alaïa's show embodied simplicity and minimalism in its beauty approach. With the focus on the geometric shapes and fabric wraps of the clothing, the hairstyle that best complemented the collection was the sleekest slick-back imaginable. By drawing all attention to the beauty of the garments, the simple yet striking hairstyle perfectly captured the essence of the Alaïa brand – a celebration of timeless elegance and refined craftsmanship.
